February is Black History Month.
On this day, in 1895, the legislature in North Carolina adjourned for the day to mourn the death of Frederick Douglass.
The abolitionist had passed the day prior, at the age of 77.
Douglass was born on Valentines' Day in 1818 in Maryland.
