2010 - Jane's Addiction announced that it had parted ways with bassist Duff McKagan. McKagan had only been working with the band for five months. 

2010 - John Lennon's killer, Mark David Chapman, was once again denied parole, nearly 30 years after gunning down the former Beatle outside New York City's Dakota apartment building. It was Chapman's sixth appearance before the board since becoming eligible for parole in 2000. 

2005 - The Rolling Stones release A Bigger Bang.

1997 - Elton John sings a re-worked version of "Candle In The Wind" at the funeral of England's Princess Diana.

1995 - Joan Jett sings the National Anthem before the Baltimore Orioles game against the California Angels.

1994 - Session pianist Nicky Hopkins passed away at the age of 50.

1993 - Don Henley, Jimmy Buffett, Elton John, Sting and Aerosmith performed at a benefit concert in Boston for Walden Woods. 

1990 - Tom Fogerty dies from an AIDS-related tuberculosis infection in Scottsdale, Arizona, at age 48.

1989 - Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil punches Guns N' Roses guitarist Izzy Stradlin in the face during the MTV Video Music Awards.

1989 - The Pittsburgh Steelers were banned from practicing on their own field, Three Rivers Stadium, because The Rolling Stones were rehearsing for their upcoming concert.

1944 - Roger Waters (bassist and co-lead vocalist for Pink Floyd) is born George Roger Waters in Great Bookham, Surrey, England.
