1979 - The film version of Quadrophenia, The Who's 1973 rock opera about growing up mod in London, premieres at the Toronto Film Festival.

1974 - Eric Clapton's "I Shot The Sheriff," a song written by Bob Marley, hits #1 in America.

1969 - Genesis take the stage for the first time, playing at the cottage owned by leader Peter Gabriel's former Sunday School teacher.

1963 - The Beatles' "She Loves You" becomes England's best-selling single of all time.

1955 - Little Richard records "Tutti Frutti" in New Orleans.

1949 - Steve Gaines (guitarist/songwriter for Lynyrd Skynyrd) is born in Seneca, Missouri, but would be raised in Miami, Oklahoma.
