1987 - Elton John sues the British newspaper, The Sun, for reports that Elton had the larynxes removed from his guard dogs so they can't bark, which is untrue. The settlement for about a million pounds and a front page apology.

1976 - George Harrison was sued by A&M for failing to deliver his latest album on time.

1975 -  Jerry Garcia and Friends and Jefferson Starship gave a free show to 40,000 fans in San Francisco's Lindley Park. 

1974 - Bad Company's self-titled album hits #1 in America.

1973 - The Rolling Stones appear on the premiere of Don Kirshner's Rock Concert on ABC.

1972 - David Bowie sells out a show in Carnegie Hall after so much publicity with his Ziggy Stardust concerts.

1968 - Janis Joplin announces that she will be leaving Big Brother & the Holding Company.

1968 - The Beatles' "Hey Jude" hits #1 in America.

1963 - Murray The K becomes the first American DJ to play a Beatles song on the air when he spins their UK hit "She Loves You" on WINS in New York.

1963 - Jim Morrison is arrested while attending Florida State University. After stealing a cop's hat and umbrella, he's charged with petty larceny, resisting arrest, public drunkenness, and disturbing the peace.
