2015 - Kim Fowley dies of bladder cancer in Hollywood, California. 

2010 - Country music legend Charlie Daniels suffered a stroke while snowmobiling in Durango, Colorado at the age of 73.

1994 - Harry Nilsson, known by the mononym Nilsson, dies of heart failure at age 52.

1992 - Elton John's long time bassist, Dee Murray, died of cancer in Nashville. He was 45. 

1983 - Australia's Men At Work owned both number one spots on the US album and singles charts.

1981 - Phil Collins plays "In The Air Tonight" on Top of the Pops with a paint can and brush nearby as props, seemingly a reference to the painter with whom his first wife cheated on him.

1977 - The Eagles' Hotel California album hits #1.

1976 -  The Eagles introduce Joe Walsh as a permanent member. Glenn Frey would later say "I personally thought that adding Joe Walsh was a dangerous move. 90% of the people who heard about it couldn't figure out how it was ever going to work." 

1974 - Brownsville Station's "Smokin' In The Boys' Room" is certified Gold.

1972 - Don McLean's "American Pie" hits #1 US for the first of four weeks.

1969 - After George Harrison announced he was quitting The Beatles and failed to show up for recording sessions on January 13th, 14th or 15th, the band held a meeting at Ringo Starr's house, where they urged Harrison to come back. George agreed to re-join the band under the provision that the they give up on the idea a live concert and move the filming of Let It Be to the Beatles' new studio in their Apple headquarters. 

1967 - Mick Jagger does as he's told and sings "Let's Spend The Night Together" as "Let's Spend Some Time Together" when The Rolling Stones appear on the Ed Sullivan Show.

1966 - The Rolling Stones receive their third Gold record for the album "December's Children".

1965 - The Who's first single, "I Can't Explain", was released.

1948 - Ronnie Van Zant (Lynyrd Skynyrd vocalist, guitarist, and driving force) is born in Jacksonville, Florida.
