2016 - Lead singer Signe Anderson and guitarist Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane died on the same day, both at 74. 

2014 - All four members of Mötley Crüe signed a "cessation of touring agreement" preventing them from ever touring again after 2015, at a press conference.

2009 - Billy Powell of Lynyrd Skynyrd died of a heart attack in his Orange Park, Florida home. 

2005 - Traffic drummer Jim Capaldi died of stomach cancer at age 60.

1997 - MCA Records announces that it has come to an agreement with Jimi Hendrix's family to acquire the rights to the entire Jimi Hendrix catalog. 

1997 - Pat Boone released an album of Heavy Metal tunes called "In A Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy."

1993 - Geffen Records filed a $30 million breach of contract suit against Don Henley, claiming that he failed to deliver the final two albums that he agreed to in his contract. The suit would be settled before coming to trial with undisclosed terms. 

1990 - Aaron Neville sang the U.S. national anthem at Super Bowl XXIV. 

1986 - The Space Shuttle Challenger exploded shortly after liftoff, killing the seven crew members on board. 

1985 - "We Are The World" was recorded in Los Angeles, with cameras rolling for the video.

1978 - The Doobie Brothers star in the first of a two-part episode of What's Happening! where they teach the kids why bootlegging is bad.

1968 - During their tour in Australia, members of The Who and The Small Faces, among others, are escorted off their flight from Adelaide to Essendon for drinking beer on the plane, being rowdy, and using "very bad language." Two of the flight's four attendants are said to be in tears.

1968 - Jim Morrison (of The Doors) is arrested after threatening a security guard at an adult movie theater.

1965 - The Who make their UK TV debut when they appear on the show Ready Steady Go! to promote their single "I Can't Explain."
