With summer in full swing, many people are busy planning vacations or quick getaways and figuring out the best way to spend time away from work or school. While some may explore destinations far from home, it turns out you don't have to go too far to see incredible sights as some of the best places to visit in the country are right here in Colorado.

World Population Review compiled a list of the "best places to visit" around the U.S., listing out reasons why the destinations are such a big draw and worth seeing whenever you happen to be nearby. According to the site, the top spots to visit in Colorado are Mesa Verde and Great Sand Dunes National Park.

Here's what the site had to say:

"Colorado is one of America's natural beauties, with the Rockies, 58 mountain peaks over 14,000 feet, and four national parks. Among those national parks, Mesa Verde is one of the top destinations to visit. Visitors can explore the Ancestral Puebloans' dwellings carved out of sandstone and mortar, including the Cliff Palace. Another top destination in Colorado is the Great Sand Dunes National Park, where North America's largest sand dunes (over 750 feet) and rugged mountains converge. This national park is perfect for hikers, and visitors can rent sleds or sandboards to ride on the dunes."
