What Is MV Agusta’s Secret Bike?

MV Augusta has to be one of the most venerable, yet troubled, names in all of motorcycling. This company has passed through a smorgasbord of hands and escaped the clutches of bankruptcy several times. It’s amazing that this company is still around, and it is also amazing how much excitement this factory can stir up when it announces a new line-up of motorcycles. This year, the famous Italian factory decided to stir the pot a bit more and revealed that a secret bike would be added to upcoming MV Augusta rosters.

What Will the New MV Be?

The freshly announced lineup of MV Augustas will include updates to the RC, RR and RVS models the manufacturer currently makes. Due to the new Euro4 rules, some of the company’s supersport fare will be allowed to die off with no updates to those lines announced. However, the big news to come out of the Italian factory is its secretive “One to One” bike model.

They have not announced anything about this bike, only that it will cost around $250,000 when released, and that these motorcycles will be built only after ordered. In comments to the media, MV Augusta CEO Giovanni Castiglioni has said the bike would feature an alternative propulsion system. He also goes on to say, “it will make a lot of power and noise.”

This has many pundits saying that the new motorcycle won’t be electric, and some even speculate that the manufacturer may have a jet-powered motorcycle in mind. However, Castiglioni has promised that the bike will be radically different, leaving many wondering just where MV may go with this one. With hydrogen cell technology being explored by other manufacturers, and hybrid technology going unexplored by major factories, the list of powertrain options is long. We could see a new diesel-powered motorcycle on the market, considering MV insists it won’t be a conventional gasoline engine. At this stage, even a rotary engine may be in the offing.
