Cut Traded Fired Retired Podcast: Sonny Lubick

On November 26, 2007 Sonny Lubick was officially relieved of his duties as head coach of the CSU Football Team. It was the 3rd time he'd been fired, but this time was different. This one hurt more. The hurt was felt by so many from coaches, players, staff and fans.

I was told it was coming by Sonny's wife Carol Jo at halftime of his last game and it felt like a punch in the gut. I had hosted his TV show for 5 years at that point and had also worked the CSU radio sidelines for 2 seasons in 1999 & 2000. My husband and I set up his daughter and her future husband by inviting them to our 4th of July party. I later DJ'd their wedding. His firing 15 years ago was a tough one for me and so many others. I love this man and his family.

Hear Sonny's story about how he got his start as a high school coach, his many stops before landing the head job at CSU in 1993 and what happened the week before 11/26/2007. The conversation is split into two parts, I encourage you to listen to both as he talks about many of the same people in both parts and the stories build on each other. Part 1 is his early life and everything leading up to 1993. Part 2 is everything from 1993 and beyond.
